A geoducky yucky day

So do any of you know what a geoduck is? If that is even how you spell it. Well in case you don't know, there are only a few times a year that the tide is low enough to see and dig for these huge clam like creatures. Some of them were around 7 lbs and had necks the were over 12" long. The kids did not go, and though I was close to letting Isaiah follow along in his family's muddy footsteps that day, after they came back 5 hours later covered in mud, I was glad he had stayed home (Emmy had a cold and cough).
These gross things take multiple ppl to dig them out. I think there were 8 in this group that went. One person to hold the neck (can't let it pull apart...gross), one to bucket water out if needed, and at least one or two to dig.

I think Isaiah squeezed this one too hard and it wet him. Had to wash those clothes right away.:)

Leanne loved it as you can imagine...teenage girl, cold, wet, early in the morning. (we love her though)

I saw an episode of Dirty Jobs where Mike Rowe went to dig them out with people and they took them back to some company that doe something with them. He also went to a Chinese restaurant where the silent Chinese lady cook showed Mike how to cook them. Hi-ya! Chop and skillet and sometimes eat raw... Mike tried a bite and cringed the whole time. It looked about as disgusting as it probably tasted...

You don't eat them do you, Krysten?? What do you do with the ones you bring home? After watching that show, I was fully educated and fully disgusted with them!!

But I suppose it's nice to have a family tradition ... ;)
